When starting to type something in the URL-/browse-bar in default-config Firefox 30, I see 2 things:
For me, I don't care much about the 1st thing, but the 2nd is annoying when manually editing what's in the URL-bar (I do this e.g. with Fossil URLs).

about:configin the URL-bar
I like 1-letter keywords/shortcuts to refer to URLs I visit often. Keywords can be longer than 1 letter, but less is more, so let's keep it short.
As I understand it, keywords can be used in at least 2 ways.
Add a Keyword for this Search...
Keyword:, fill in a letter of choice, e.g.
g foobarin URL-bar to google-search for 'foobar'
Show All Bookmarks
Unsorted Bookmarksfrom the leftmost column
Location:, type in the desired URL, e.g. http://fossil-scm.org/
Keyword:, type in the letter of choice, e.g.
fin URL-bar to go to the Fossil-site
